Account Deactivation

How to close your 80eight account from the app, what the process involves, and what is kept afterwards.
A pointer to what this document covers, not a summary of it. The document below is what applies.
You can close your 80eight account yourself, from the app. This page explains what to do first, how it works, what happens the moment it is done, and what we are required to keep afterwards.
Before you start
Closing your account does not move money. Anything still in it stays there, and the app will refuse to close an account that is not empty.
• Withdraw or send every balance, rand and crypto, to an account or wallet you control.
• Let anything still in flight finish: a trade that has not settled, a withdrawal or send that is still processing, or a limit order that is still open. Cancel what you can and wait for the rest to complete.
If the app tells you the account still holds a balance or has an open position, that is why.
In the app
1. Open Settings and scroll down to Your account.
2. Choose Delete account, and read what happens before you continue.
3. Confirm it is you with your 6-digit PIN.
There is no waiting period. The account is closed the moment your PIN is accepted.
If you can no longer get into the app
Email hello@80eight.io from the address registered to your account, with Close my account as the subject, and include the cellphone number you registered with. We will confirm it is you before we act, and reply once it is done. If you would rather talk to someone first, email hello@80eight.io.
We will never ask for your PIN or your password, not by email, not by phone and not on WhatsApp. Anyone who does is not us.
What happens
• You lose access immediately. Your account is closed and you are signed out on every device.
• You stop being discoverable. Nobody can find you by username, PayID or phone number any more.
• It is permanent. You cannot sign in again, and you cannot undo it yourself. If you closed your account by mistake, get in touch as soon as you can and we will tell you what is possible.
What we keep, and why
80eight is a licensed financial services provider. South African law requires us to keep certain records, who you are, how we verified it and the transactions you made, for set periods after an account closes. Closing your account does not erase those records, and we cannot shorten those periods on request.
Personal information we are not required to keep is handled under our Privacy Policy, which also explains how to ask us to correct or delete it.
