80eight has completed the rebuild of the platform behind its apps, moving payments, trading, custody and identity verification onto a re-engineered core.

The work was released in stages rather than as a single switch. The production cut-over came first, followed by a rebuilt trading engine and an upgraded custody integration.

What changed

Account security. Sign-in uses browser-protected sessions with built-in protection against cross-site request forgery. On mobile, the session is held in hardware-backed device storage. Money-moving actions carry an additional verification step.

Identity verification. A second verification provider now sits alongside the first, and the checks were consolidated into a single flow.

One pricing engine. Buy and sell prices come from a single pricing engine, and the rate shown is the rate the trade executes at. Before the rebuild, the displayed rate and the executed rate were produced separately.

Custody. The crypto-custody integration was upgraded, with additional safeguards on deposits and withdrawals.

Compliance. Regulatory and travel-rule tooling was expanded as part of the same cut-over.

Why it was a rebuild rather than a fix

"Some of this could not be fixed in place," said the 80eight product team. "A displayed rate that is calculated separately from the executed rate is not a bug you patch. You take the two apart and give them one source."

Availability

The rebuilt platform is live for 80eight customers on web and mobile. Nothing needs to be switched on; the apps update in the ordinary way.
